Waiting for You in the City (一座城，在等你) by Jiu Yue Xi 玖月晞 ~ Chapter 49

Outside the building, the siren shows that the fire engine is coming soon.

Xu Qin passes the corridor and looks at the window. She notices the red fire engine outside, it stops in front of the building.

She walks faster and exits the building.

The fire engine stops and several firefighters get off from it. She could notice Song Yan right away, though she could only see his back. But very quickly he walks away and disappears in front fo her.

She doesn’t approach them, she stands there and watches. On the 21st floor of outpatient clinic, there are two people standing there. They are waving their arms. They look so emotional. They are yelling. But because of the heavy wind, she couldn’t hear anything.

Song Yan goes to the front of the building and looks up. Those two keep on extending their hand and makes the bystanders yells. He looks at the hospital’s person-in-charge and asks: “What is the condition?”

“They are making disruption for obtaining compensation, they want to jump off the building. Our colleagues are upstair and urging them to get off. But they seem to not pay attention to them, they are not allowing them to approach.”

Song Yan: “Tong Ming, Xiao Ge, both of you go upstair first.” He also warns: “Do it with a safety measure.”

Then he looks back: “Lao Dong, raise up the scaling ladder, carry him down.”

Lao Dong gets on the fire engine and starts to operate it. The scaling stairs of the fire engine is raised up. Then suddenly there’s a intense yelling.

Song Yan lifts up his head and narrows his eyes. Those two are waving disorderly, they are yelling about something but he couldn’t hear it clearly.

Song Yan raises up his head and Lao Dong immediately stops raising the stairs further.

The firefighter-in-charge, who is upstair, says through the speaker: Don’t move, these two are emotional. They said if you guys raised the stairs, they would jump off the building.

It could be heard that the man, who threatens to climb off the stairs: “My wife and kid are dead. I also don’t want to live again. I don’t need you guys to help me! Don’t think that everything would be fine if I jump off the building!”

Song Yan pursues his lips and frowns.

“Dui Zhang, what should we do?”

Song Yan: “Yang Chi, all of you go and prepare the air cushion. Then…..”

Xu Qin watches all of them.

Director Liu still tries to mediate: “Now our society is ruled by law, you guys need to be reasonable. If you are dissatisfied, you could just sue us—-“

“You guys are rich and arrogant, you guys would bribe the court of justice.” The man yells: “We have no money and power. We couldn’t sue you guys. We would let the people downstair come to give a verdict on this!”

On the other side, several firefighters are looking at each other. Then they do just do safety measure.

Song Yan’s expression is cold, he calculates the distance between him and those two people. It’s around 6-7 meter.

He wants to take an opportunity when the man is unfocused to grab him.

But there are two people there.

It might be an accident.

He couldn’t grab two of them at the same time. If he took other firefighters, they might be a void.

The time he is considering, the police is coming.

Those two people are getting even emotional when they see the police.

“You guys and the hospital are group. If you want to solve this, then let the hospital to compensate. They should consider the life of our family member. Okay, today I would jump if they don’t. Your hospital would be over. I would die here! This is my warning. If this matter isn’t solved today, I really would jump.”

Song Yan and Tong Ming want to pul them.

Suddenly there’s a voice:

Xu Qin stands there with her white doctor’s robe, she looks cold.

She walks toward them and looks at them calmly. She doesn’t look at anyone else.

“D*mm*t, what are you saying?” That man couldn’t believe what he is hearing. He looks over and says: “Indeed! Your hospital staff want us to die!”

“Right!’ Xu Qin says calmly: “Just go die.”

“You ——“ That man is too furious, he wants to scold her, but he sees that Xu Qin is approaching him. He points at her: “I warn you, don’t come over, if you come closer….”

But look at what you guys make, a lot of civil servants come over because of your action. Look at the firefighters, they don’t choose to this job for get themselves kill because of you!”

The old woman is too focus on XU Qin that she doesn’t notice Song Yan.

The police comes over to help him.

The time he acts, Tong Ming and Xiao Ge have come over to grab the man. The man notices that his mother is grabbed before he touches Xu QIn. Xiao Ge and Tong Ming grabs him.

That man yells and struggle. His legs are kicking recklessly. He kicks Tong Min’s leg, Tong Ming retreats a step. His leg bumps the stairway and he loses his balance. In a n instant he gets over the stair case and falls downstair.

Xiao Ge yells: “Tong Ming!”

It happens to fast. Xu Qin doesn’t have time to response. She just watches the orange color figure disappears from her sight.

Everyone’s face turns white.

Song Yan is quick, he comes forward and grabs the safety rope. But the rope falls down so quickly, Song Yan is also pulled.

Xu Qin screams: “Song Yan!”

Xiao Ge grabs the safety chord and tries to stop Song Yan to fall down. The doctors and directors come forward to pull the chord.

All of them are successful in making the chord be dead straight. Song Yan and Tong Ming are on the ground. Everyone is having a cold sweat.

Xu Qin’s heart bears so fast, her legs are going weak.

The mother and son just sit down there, they are taken away by the police.

“Tong Ming! Are you okay?” Song Yan yells.

“My waist is hurt——“ Tong Ming yells.

A doctor immediately comes over: “Hurry up, check him.”

Tong Ming is taken away.

Xu Qin watches Song Yan. Her heart is still full of fears.

She looks at his bleeding hands. He has injury on his neck and head.

He is chatting with the police and notices her.

He looks at her, he seems to be restraining himself.

Then in a next second, he looks away.

Xu Qin is called by the leader, she enters the building and then looks away. Song Yan is still discussing matter with the police. He seems to have no time to mind her.

Xu Qin turns her body and leaves. She notices that her legs are weak. Her back is full of cold sweat. Her palm is filled with nail marks.

The director doesn’t praise or criticize her, he just asks everyone to keep a secret that Xu Qin said those words to the family members.

The colleagues are agreeing to keep it a secret. In private, they somewhat are thankful for her words, at how she could show their resentment too. They didn’t expect that she would say those words to help her.

Everyone asks for her contact number, they plan to invite her to join the colleagues’ gathering next time.

Xu Qin just answers calmly, then she goes back to her work.

The time she goes to the emergency department, she still sees the fire engine is there. Everyone is gone, the firefighters are cleaning up everything.

She doesn’t see Song Yan.

Xu Qin returns to the emergency department feels that everything is so blurred. She feels tired. She doesn’t know whether it’s because of her work or what happened before.

She keeps on working till the midnight. Then she takes taxi back home. She leans on the backseat and daydreams.

The taxi stops in front of Wu Fang Jie crossing. There is a roadblock that makes the taxi couldn’t get in.

Xu Qin gets off the car and looks around. It’s so empty. She sighs and suddenly notices Jiu Jiu and Jiu Ma are waiting for her on the roadside.

She is startled and approaches them. “Jiu Ji, Jiu Ma?”

“Qin Qin is back?” Jiu Ma smiles.

“Why are you guys here?” Xu Qin is puzzled.

“This alley is dark at night. We are worry about you.” Jiu Ma says: “Yan Yan is away, so I and Jiu come over to pick you guys up.”

Xu Qin feels something warm inside her heart and follows them back home.

Jiu Jiu holds Jiu Ma’s hand. They are chatting about the last night drama. Xu Qin listens to hem and looks back.

Everything is closed at this time.

Indeed, it would be terrifying to walk alone around.

“We already make a turn, what are you doing?” Jiu Ma says, she holds Xu Qin’s hand. Xu Qin feels Jiu Ma’s warm and rough hand: “Ahyoo, you are wearing too thin clothes, your hand is cold.”
